Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator

The Company

  • Established in 2010 and provides both funded and commercial education and training for learners aged 14-70 within the areas of Sport, Health, Fitness andFunctional Skills
  • The College is based within Robin Park Leisure Centre, Wigan
  • Typical learner numbers: 16-18 Study Programmes = 70, Adult Education = 250+
  • Average percentage of learners with EHCP and other learning needs = 27%

Role Overview

  • 2025-26 has been the first year the College has had a trained specialist in post
  • This has proven highly effective in the increased support provided to learners andtheir families
  • This qualified provision has also been well-received by the College’s fundingpartners, who are in-scope for Ofsted
  • The College currently has 2 EHCP learners, with new Level 1 provision commencingin January 2026 - further EHCP learners have applied for course places (minimum ofa further 3)
  • The role is currently expected to take 1 day per week (0.2 FTE) over 40 weeksannually
  • The College will consider a freelance appointment at £175 per day and possibly apart-time employment position

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinating support for students with special educational needs and disabilities(SEND)
  • Maintaining accurate records of all students with SEND, including EHCPs (EducationHealth Care Plans) and medical plans (where appropriate)
  • Liaising with teaching staff to ensure appropriate differentiation, strategies and resources are in place
  • Conducting assessments and arranging external support where necessary
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of students with SEND
  • Organising staff training on SEND-related matters
  • Liaising with parents, guardians and external agencies
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice
