The Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport is a two-year, full-time programme designed for learners who want to build a comprehensive understanding of the sport, fitness, and coaching industries while developing the knowledge and practical skills needed for employment or higher education.
You’ll study a wide range of topics that combine theory and applied practice, including anatomy and physiology, fitness training, sports leadership, psychology, performance analysis, coaching practice, and professional development in the sport and physical activity sector. Throughout the course you’ll complete practical assessments, written assignments, and real-world projects rather than relying solely on exams.
This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and carries UCAS points for university progression. Many learners move on to foundation or full degrees in Sport Coaching, Sport Science, or Physical Education, while others progress directly into employment in coaching, fitness, or leisure management.
The Extended Diploma is ideal for learners who already have a strong interest in sport and want to immerse themselves in a professional environment. You’ll benefit from access to outstanding facilities, expert tutors, and close links with Wigan Warriors, giving you insight into elite performance, teamwork, and leadership in sport.
